History:

The Shore Temple, built during the reign of the Pallava dynasty in the 7th century AD, holds immense historical significance. The temple complex was initially constructed by Narasimhavarman II, also known as Rajasimha, and further expanded during the reign of his successors. The Shore Temple was named because it stands on the shore of the Bay of Bengal, providing a breathtaking backdrop of the sea.

Architecture:

The Shore Temple showcases a stunning blend of Dravidian and Pallava architectural styles. It is a structural temple with two shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, facing east. One of the unique features of the Shore Temple is its captivating lion-like monolithic sculptures that guard the temple's entrance. The temple complex also includes a small pavilion and a Nandi sculpture.

The temple is situated in Mahabalipuram in the Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu. Mahabalipuram is approximately 58 kilometers south of Chennai.
