Mahabalipuram, also known as Mamallapuram, is a historic town in Tamil Nadu, India, famous for its UNESCO World Heritage Site monuments and temples. Located 60 KM from Chennai, Mahabalipuram is a breezy drive away on the East Coast Road.

Its history dates back to the 7th and 8th centuries when it was a bustling port city under the Pallava dynasty. The Pallavas, particularly King Narasimhavarman I, were the rulers who built the famous rock-cut temples and sculptures in Mahabalipuram.
