Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will be inaugurating the fair on April 6, 2025. With the involvement of 1,600 artists in several cultural programs, this festival is expected to be even bigger! Traditional dances, performing arts and musical troupes from Gujarat and North-East India will be part of the festival, which promises to delight the eyes and ears of the visitors with their extravagant manifestations.

A Celebration of Lord Krishna’s Wedding:

Madhavpur Ghed Mela is based on the Hindu mythology. As per the legends, at Dwarka, Lord Krishna married Devi Rukmini and this festival glorifies their divine partnership. In which every year in the month of Chaitra, devotees congregate to celebrate this divine wedding.

The celebrations feature a magnificent procession that begins at the Madhavaraya Temple and lasts for three days. Another noteworthy mention at the fair is the conventional Mameru ritual in which people of Kadachh village go to the temple with their offerings. On the day of Baras, an important ritual takes place where Thakorji’s soul is taken out of the temple, followed by an honor guard ceremony by the police.

As part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, Madhavpur Ghed Mela fosters cultural unity by bringing together artists from Gujarat and the North-Eastern states.

A cultural program was held in Surat on April 1, 2025, at the Indoor Stadium, where 200 artists from Gujarat and 200 from the North-East performed together.
