As we all know Himachal Pradesh is like paradise in India and within that paradise lie Kheerganga trek. It is located at the very end of the Parvati valley. It is said that the Kheerganga trek got the name from the milky white waters of river Ganges. It is a short trek but the memories you will have after this trek will last for a lifetime.
Kheerganga trek consists of some wonderful views throughout the journey which will leave you awestruck. If you are looking for peace and less crowded trek, Kheerganga trek is the perfect trekking destination for you. From beginning to end of the trek one thing that's constant is the lush greenery and serene views which won't let you feel exhausted.
Kheerganga trek is about 14-17 km long depending on the path you choose as there are two different paths (Both with equally astonishing views). The starting point of this mesmerizing trek is from Barshaini village.
It's a two-day trek with medium level difficulty. In monsoon weather, Kheerganga trek is generally not advised because of the hilly area and landslides so it's better if you plan this trek somewhere between September to November. During this time there are fair chances that you can encounter light snowfall which will just act as the icing on the cake. The temperature in Kheerganga during this period might fall around 4 to 5 degrees. You can also do Kheerganga trek in May and June.
If you are lucky enough then you might get blessed with the company of a dog. Dogs there are very friendly and they won't leave your side until you finish your whole trek. They will come with you to the top and will again trek back with you the next morning to the starting point.
The journey of this trek will leave you speechless. Kheerganga trek has a mystical aura attached to it which you will feel as soon as you begin the journey.
Once you start the trek you will notice that you are surrounded by beautiful mountains. They will accompany you throughout your journey and will give you the motivation you require to finish the Kheerganga trek. Later as your trek progresses you will see a diversion, that will split your journey in two paths which will eventually meet when the trek is about to finish. These paths are named as Kalga and Rudranag.
When you start the trek, Kalga path is recommended because it's not that steep as Rudranag and the journey is quite simple. It is a 5 to 6-hour trek so it's better if you start the trek around 10-11 o'clock in the morning so that it won't be dark while you finish the trek because it becomes very difficult to move in the dark. There will be shops at regular intervals where you can take a break, get refreshed, and have some tea and Maggi. It will give you a sense of satisfaction after some tiresome journey. You will also feel the taste of simplicity in it and that will make it special and the best tea and Maggi you ever had.
Once you reach the top of Kheerganga trek there is a hot water spring where you can take bath enjoying the panoramic views of the beautiful mountains and can let go of all the tiredness. There is a temple of Lord Shiva at the peak which you can visit. Tents and food are quite easily available at the top. There are some options available for food but after a whole day of trekking, you will be so exhausted that you won't be looking for options there. You can also enjoy a campfire with your friends and have an amazing experience.
Next morning you don't want to wake up late and miss the majestic sight of sunrise because it is one of those moments that you want to savor for the whole life. After finishing your breakfast you can start your trek back towards the starting point. While returning the advised path is Rudranag because it has an amazing waterfall where you can click some beautiful pictures and a small temple on the way. The cold breeze around the waterfall is the only thing required after a day of trekking and will make you feel fresh again. It will take around 4 to 5 hours to reach back to the starting point of Kheerganga trek from the Rudranag route.

How to reach Barshaini village - The starting point of trek:
From Delhi, you can get the direct bus to Kasol and from Kasol to Kheerganga local buses and cabs are available. The distance from Kasol to Kheerganga is around 25 km. Another option is that from Delhi, you can get the direct bus to Manikaran and from Manikaran local buses and cabs are available for Barshaini village which is around 16 km. You can take a break at Gurudwara Shri Manikaran Sahib in where you can rest, have your breakfast and get ready for the trek. Gurudwara Shri Manikaran Sahib is itself a center of attraction in Manikaran. You will find hot water spring there and you can get freshen up and relax before starting the journey.
