The Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, birthplace of Lord Ram, has been a focus of dispute for centuries. Hindus believe that in the 16th century, Mughal emperor Babur built Babri Masjid on the very place where an ancient temple stood. It's important to Hindus because it represents the birthplace of Lord Rama. Building the temple had some arguments and went to court. In 2020, the Indian Supreme Court said the temple could be built.
On 22nd Jan 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the temple to honor Lord Shri Ram.
Built in the classic Nagara style, the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir is 161 feet tall, 380 feet long (east-west), and 250 feet wide. The Mandir is three-storied, with each floor being 20 feet tall. It has a total of 392 pillars and 44 doors, there is the childhood form of Bhagwan Shri Ram (the idol of Shri Ram Lalla) and on the first floor there will be a Shri Ram Darbar. Ayodhya Ram Mandir has no iron or steel in its structure.
The idol of Lord Rama, known as Ram Lalla, is crafted from a special stone called "Krishna Shila." This stone is also known as the Shaligram stone. This is the reason why the idol of Ram Lala is of a dark complexion, commonly known as "Shyamal" in Hindi.
