Pangong Tso (Pangong Lake), Leh, Ladakh

Pangong Lake is one of the highest saltwater lakes on the planet. Pangong Lake, also known as Pangong Tso, sits serenely at an elevation of 14,270 feet. The lake is approximately 5 km wide at its widest point and approximately 134 km long. Furthermore, no one knows how deep Pangong Lake is, though it is estimated to be around 300 feet. Pangong Lake has naturally piqued the interest of geologists. However, it rose to prominence after appearing in the 2009 Bollywood film "The 3 Idiots," starring Aamir Khan. It now attracts an average of 1,000 tourists per day!

1. Khardung La 

Khardung La is a high altitude mountain pass located nearly 40 kilometres from Leh that serves as the entrance to the Shyok and Nubra Valleys. The Border Roads Organization maintains the Khardung La Pass, a popular tourist destination in Ladakh.

2. Hemis National Park

Hemis National Park is a high altitude national park in the Indian state of Ladakh. It is world-famous for its snow leopards, and it is thought to have the highest density of them in any protected area on the planet.

3. Diskit Monastery

Also known as Diskit Gompa, the monastery's most notable feature is the massive Maitreya Buddha statue atop it, which was inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The base of the statue provides a stunning panoramic view of the Nubra Valley.

Nubra Valley is 150 kilometres north of Leh, where the rivers Shyok and Siachen merge to form a large valley. This valley separates Ladakh from the Karakoram Ranges, and to the north of it is the famous Siachen Glacier.
