It was built with the goal of promoting education about astronomy.
The Sky Theatre in Nehru Planetarium is a dome-shaped theatre. It shows information on constellations and planets. The information is beautifully presented with computer animations, paintings, cartoons, video clipping, and special effects. It was reopened in September 2010 after a renovation worth Rs 11 Crore.
