One of the beautiful and pleasant place to visit and the biggest temple with a Lord Shiva statue. It is a must-visit place for devotees and tourists.
Murudeshwar or murdeshwar is a town in Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka state. The temple is known for its stunning location by the Arabic Sea and its massive statue of Lord Shiva which stands at about 123 feet and is one of the tallest Shiva statues in the world.
The temple complex is built on hills that offer beautiful views of the sea and the surrounding scenery. The temple has a unique mix of traditional South Indian temple architecture and modern design.
According to the story, this temple was built where Ravana (The demon king from the epic Ramayana) did a lot of prayers and meditations to please Lord Shiva. Pleased with his devotion, Shiva gave him a special lingam. However, the lingam was accidentally dropped and it fell in the Murdeshwar region.
