Mehrangarh Fort is the pride of Jodhpur because of its majestic construction and fascinating history. Rao Jodha finished Mehrangarh Fort, one of Rajasthan's most powerful and beautiful forts, in 1459. The fort has a 5-kilometer radius and is built on a 125-meter-high hill on Jodhpur's outskirts. Winter is the best time to visit this royal splendour. The weather is mild from October to March, making it the ideal time to visit this majestic fort.
The name Mehran comes from the words ‘Mihir,’ meaning sun, and ‘Garh,’ meaning fort, as the Rathore dynasty, which built the fort, considered themselves descendants of the Sun God. The fort has thick, high walls and is known for its seven grand gates, each with its own story. One of the most famous is the Jayapol Gate, which means 'Victory Gate' and was built to celebrate the Rajput’s victory over the Mughals.
