I have visited this place during the month of May last year and the picture which I shared are taken during that time. Due to summer, you are not seeing waterbody but I learned from the local that this place is looks even more beautiful after monsoon. Must visit place near Shillong.
Laitlum canyon which is also known as Laitlum Grand Canyon of India located in East Khasi hills at 25KM from Shillong and will take around 1 hour drive. It is one of the most beautiful locations near Shillong which gives panoramic view of lush green mountains and landscape. Laitlum’s meaning is The End of Hills – and this place truly represent the meaning as the landscape and mountain are appeared to be the end of the earth.
It is located at around 25KM from Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya and will take around 1 hour road drive by considering the mountain road and traffic of Shillong. Route towards Laitlum Grand Canyon are very well maintained and surrounded by beautiful landscape that will give you picturesque views during your journey.
If you love hiking, you can go for it by just taking route behind the valley which take you to the small village. This route is well connected by steps and used by local villagers for daily commute. You can also take a trail around the Laitlum Grand Canyon where various view points are there to take a closer look and photographs of this beautiful valley.
The best time to visit Laitlum canyon is in winter when you can have a clear visibility of the canyon. The recommended months are from October to February. Obviously, you can visit this place from any season but avoid Monsoon as this area usually witness the heavy rainfall and the trail may get slippery.
